The Woefully Slow-to-Learn Republican Party

Although the Republican Party claims to defend liberty and free markets, it’s track record over the last 100 years is dismal. Three of several examples including presidents Teddy “progressive (read: anti-progress)” Roosevelt, Richard “wage and price controls” Nixon, and George W. “let’s put home ownership in the hands of people who can’t afford it” Bush.

Now the party finds itself out of the White House and out of power in both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate. You might think all this would provide the party with an enormous amount of incentive to learn from its past mistakes — and you’d be right. But the “Stupid Party” — as blogger Michelle Malkin refers to the Republicans — is woefully slow to learn even the most obvious of lessons.

As such, we continue to see the party make enormous mistakes. For example, Republican Senator Olympia Snowe votes for a move toward much socialized medicine in committee — thus providing cover to other on-the-fence senators, Republican and Democrat alike. Yet, rather than kick her out of the party for her egregious anti-liberty vote, the Republicans continue to include her as one of them.

To cite one of many other examples, Republican “leaders” pick leftist Dede Scozzafava to be their choice for a special election in New York state’s 23rd Congressional District. Scozzafava is so far left that in the past, she has run as a candidate under the ballot line of the socialist Working Families Party. Yep, that’s the political party with exceedingly close ties to thoroughly-corrupt ACORN. The Republican Party did this despite having a much better candidate seek the nomination — businessman Doug Hoffman. I encourage all individuals who want to see government spend a lot less and tax a lot less to do the following:

1. Donate to Doug Hoffman for Congress (Full disclosure: I have already done so.)

2. Stop giving money to the Republican National Committee (RNC) — and simultaneously let them know that you will only start providing support when the Republican Party stops embracing harmful anti-liberty politicians like Olympia Snowe and Dede Scozzafava.

3. Work to vote all politicians — and especially Republican politicians — out of office who egregiously vote to raise taxes and/or raise government spending. For example, work to vote out the cap-and-tax eight, the eight hideously awful Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives who voted for what arguably would be the largest tax increase in American history.

4. Get actively involved in your local tea party movement — the most important grassroots uprising of pro-liberty Americans in our lifetime!

Unless and until the Republican Party decides to place proper political principles — the unalienable moral rights to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness — over party, let patriots like us show them how it’s done!
