Hey, Marvel: Bring Back the REAL Captain America!

Issue #602 of Captain America — published by Marvel Comics — goes out of its way to insult the tea party movement. For example, Captain America’s sidekick The Falcon erroneously slams tea partiers as a “hate the government” movement, when most of us do not hate the government at all. We simply want limited government — meaning, the government constitutionally restricted to activities which protect every individual’s moral rights, which is the proper purpose of government — rather than to live under tyranny.

Even worse, The Falcon judges folks by their skin color, snidely remarking “I don’t exactly see a black man from Harlem [meaning, The Falcon] fitting in with a bunch of angry white folks.” Since when does Marvel Comics think that there’s something wrong with folks having a certain skin color, no matter what skin color that is? How repulsive.

When Captain America made his first appearance, in March 1941, he was depicted on the front cover of his comic punching out Adolf Hitler. I say bring back this real Captain America — the one with moral certainty and the courage to act upon righteous principles — the one who today would be punching out Osama bin Laden, rather than siding against peaceful Americans for having the audacity to value their unalienable rights to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness.
