Obama’s Audacious Lack of Integrity
By Mark Kalinowski on Feb 19, 2010 in Uncategorized
Obama’s deeply troubled relationship with the truth continues. During his presidential campaign, he pledged — countless times — that he would not raise taxes on families making less than $250,000 per year. For example, on September 12, 2008, Obama promised “I can make a firm pledge, under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.” Obama broke this promise on April 1, 2009 when he signed into law a tax increase on tobacco products, which happen to be disproportionately purchased by the poor. And of course, this won’t be the last time Obama breaks that particular promise of his. In an interview published in the February 22, 2010 edition of Business Week, Obama now admits that he is “agnostic” about possible tax increases on families earning less than $250,000 per year. Obama attempts to explain away his broken promise as such: he wants to “make sure that all ideas are on the table.” All ideas? Even bad ideas that run counter to a central campaign promise of yours? Let us hope that in 2012, Americans have the audacity to elect a president who has the bare minimum of integrity necessary to actually attempt to keep his or her campaign promises. Let us also hope that more voters in 2012 find themselves immune to the dangerous charms of classless snake-oil salesmen.
