States’ Focus on Individual Mandate Misses the Point

Although I give one cheer to those states that are taking Washington D.C. to court regarding the unconstitutional mandate that all individuals be forced to buy health insurance, these states largely miss the point. Even if these lawsuits succeed, all states’ most economically-productive citizens will still be punished for what socialists view as the “crime” of being peaceful and highly productive. I refer to the provision of the Democratic Party’s hostile takeover of our nation’s healthcare system that requires some individuals’ and families’ taxes to go up by a large amount. This provision of the law is deeply immoral, as it is a violation of wage-earners’ rights to their own property (in this case, their income). Shame on the bureaucrats who have comfort with the idea that it is somehow morally OK to seize income by force (legalized theft) so that it can be redistributed to politically-correct segments of the voting population (legalized bribery). I encourage all 50 states to stand up for their citizens’ unalienable rights to liberty and property by taking Washington D.C. to court over this newest seizure of income from the only folks who have a proper moral claim to it — those that peacefully earned it in the first place.
